Our Mission:

Members of the Seal Beach Police Department are dedicated to providing high quality police service to the citizens of Seal Beach with the primary objective of protecting lives and property. We will work in a cooperative effort with all segments of the community to achieve the mutual goal of keeping Seal Beach a safe and desirable place to reside, work and visit, as well as to impact a genuine feeling of security.

Our History:

The City of Seal Beach was incorporated on October 25, 1915. The population was two hundred and fifty people, and there was no concern about crime in this small seacoast village. By November 1915, however it was determined there should be some person or agency responsible for law enforcement. The City of Huntington Beach had a Marshal, so Seal Beach contracted for a Deputy Marshal on a part-time basis. Within a few years it was apparent that something more than a Deputy Marshal was needed to control the influx of people, lured by bright lights and warm evenings during the summer months in Seal Beach. Huntington Beach provided a Marshal as well as a Deputy for their sister city. In 1927, Seal Beach selected a local Marshal and two deputies and they served until the title was changed from Marshal to Police Chief. Since that time there have been 13 Chiefs of Police. Our current Chief of Police is Jeffrey Kirkpatrick.

We currently operate with thirty Police Officers, twenty-five professional employees, up to ten Reserve Police Officers, 65+ Volunteers-in-Policing, and 50+ Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers providing quality service to the City of Seal Beach.
