New England Communities Continue Efforts for Limit Boat Discharges

EPA is considering proposals from Maine and Massachusetts to designate the coastal waters of Boothbay Harbor, Kennebunkport, Kennebunk, Wells, Revere, Saugus, Lynn, Nahant and Swampscott as "No Discharge Areas." If approved, discharges of treated and untreated boat sewage would be prohibited within town boundaries.
N.H. Landlord Fined and Will Take Steps to Reduce Risk of Lead Poisoning

A Manchester based landlord, Biren Properties, Inc., will pay a penalty and take action to reduce the risk of lead poisoning at apartment buildings in Manchester, N.H. This will settle EPA claims that Biren violated lead paint disclosure laws when it rented certain properties in Manchester without providing tenants with lead paint disclosure information.
Town of Bristol, NH Wastewater Treatment Facility Recognized Nationally for Excellence, along with the NHDES

EPA has recently selected the Town of Bristol, New Hampshire's Wastewater Treatment Plant for a National First Place "Operations and Maintenance Excellence Award" in the Most Improved Plant category. The "Most Improved Plant" category recognizes extraordinary efforts by treatment plant personnel, local officials, and the on-site state operator trainer to return a facility to compliance under a technical assistance program authorized by the Clean Water Act.
ExxonMobil Charged in Boston Harbor Oil Spill

A criminal information was filed today in federal court charging a wholly owned subsidiary of ExxonMobil Corporation with violating the criminal provisions of the Clean Water Act in connection with a spill of approximately 15,000 gallons of diesel oil into the Mystic River from ExxonMobil’s oil terminal in Everett, Mass.
3 Companies Face Fine for Lack of Oil Spill Prevention Plans
