Give Now to Our Annual Appeal!

Seasons Greetings from the Archives of American Art

In 1958, the Archives initiated an oral history program that quickly became a cornerstone of our mission. Before American art was a field of academic study, we set out to record the life stories of the artists, collectors, dealers, and scholars who have shaped the visual arts in the United States.

Today, our recordings make up the world’s largest collection of oral histories on the subject of art, allowing scholars to learn about the art world directly from the words of our nation’s most distinguished artists. From Abraham Walkowitz to Robert Rauschenberg, their spoken reminiscences and observations chronicle the great diversity of the American art scene, preserving their rich stories and deepening our collective knowledge for the benefit of future generations.

As you consider your year-end giving, please include a gift to the Archives of American Art. Your generosity will ensure that the Archives is able to continue to give voice, as no other collection can, to the singular history and extraordinary human stories behind America’s art and artists.

Yes! I’d like to make a fully tax-deductible gift to the Archives!
