Photography Resources at the Archives of American Art

This Guide to Photography and Photographers highlights hundreds of unique collections and images from the Archives of American Art. Some of these collections help trace the history of the photographic medium, while others document the lives of American photographers.

Use Browse Collections to view all relevant collections in this guide. In addition to papers, records, photographs and other documentation, the Archives also holds an impressive number of Photography-related Oral History Interviews.

Researchers interested in finding individual photographs from the Archives’ collections should be sure to consult Search Images.

This guide was created in 2008 with support from the Terra Foundation for American Art.
