Grey Towers Photo Policy

Grey Towers

"Special Event Photo Policy (ie: wedding)

1) Special event, wedding and commercial photos are not permitted within the historic core during regular business hours.

    • Regular business hours are every day from 9 am – 5 pm from Memorial Day weekend through the end of October, and weekends in May and November.
    • The historic core is described as anything within the deer fence, except for the parking lot, visitor pavilion, and lawn area adjacent to the visitor pavilion (below the pedestrian walkway).

2) Other locations outside the historic core that can be recommended for photos and/or weddings are the ponds in the lower meadow and the bridge over the creek behind the Gatehouse. When the Gatehouse is occupied, the occupants should be alerted in advance to the activity, and the party should be made aware to be respectful of the occupants.

3) The grounds are open from sunup to sundown; pedestrians can take photos within the historic core after or before the public visitation and regular business hours, unless the site is being used for an after-hours, mission-related event or program.

  • All vehicles must be removed from the site before the gates are locked and access is on foot only.
  • No restroom facilities are available.
  • Though this use is after-hours, the person making the arrangements** must provide contact information to the Forest Service and written permission from the Director of Grey Towers (or a designated representative) must be given in advance of the photography event. There is no form or application for this and it can be done via email (greytowers@fs.fed.us).
  • **If a commercial photographer is taking the photos, he/she must provide the contact information.

4) Special Use Permits must be obtained for groups larger than 75*, no matter where on the grounds or when the event takes place.

*75 is the cutoff number for NFS lands Special Use Permits. The Director of Grey Towers can institute a different cutoff number at his/her discretion.
