Union Station
Massachusetts Avenue between 1st and 2nd Streets, NE
The building was closed for restoration in 1978. Ten years and $160 million dollars later, the doors were reopened in 1988 with a gala celebration. It was the largest, most complex public/private restoration project ever attempted in the U.S.
Union Station now attracts more than 40,000 visitors daily. Its renovated halls contain an assortment of specialty shops, movie theaters and eateries, as well as, the Union Station Metro and Amtrak terminals.
