Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual to serve in his administration:

The President intends to nominate Thomas W. O'Connell of Virginia, to be Assistant Secretary of Defense (Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict). Mr. O'Connell currently serves as Senior Manager for Raytheon Company for Intelligence and Information Systems. He is also a Member of the President's National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee Task Forces. Before joining Raytheon, Mr. O'Connell served as Advanced Projects Manager in the Intelligence/Electronic Warfare Division of the Chrysler Corporation. He has also served as Military Chief for the Command Support Group in the Office of Military Affairs at the Central Intelligence Agency. Prior to this, Mr. O'Connell served as Deputy Director for U.S. Special Operations Command and as Brigade Commander for the Army Special Mission Unit. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island, his first master's degree from Central Michigan University and a second master's degree from the U.S. Naval War College.
