Office of the Press Secretary
April 4, 2003

Statement by the Press Secretary

President Francisco Flores of El Salvador, President Alfonso Portillo of Guatemala, President Ricardo Maduro of Honduras, and President Enrique Bolaos of Nicaragua to the White House for a meeting on April 10. The President considers Central America to be a region of peace and democracy, where regional integration offers the promise of growing prosperity. These leaders are not only building democracy's foundations at home but are also supportive of our efforts to disarm Saddam Hussein and liberate the Iraqi people.

The President looks forward to discussing with his Central American colleagues the current state of negotiations on the U.S. - Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) and to advancing our common goals to promote peace, prosperity, and stability in the Western Hemisphere.
