The Summits of the Americas Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) in coordination with the National Secretariat for the Fifth Summit of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago is pleased to inform that the deadline to register and submit your essay for the “Third Summit of the Americas Essay Contest” within the framework of the Fifth Summit of the Americas, has been extended to January 31, 2009.

The Essay Contest, directed to undergraduate or graduate students of the OAS Member States, seeks to encourage students of the hemisphere to focus on the themes addressed in the Draft Declaration of Commitment of Port of Spain: Securing our Citizen's Future by Promoting Human Prosperity, Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability, to be adopted at the Fifth Summit of the Americas.

To assess your eligibility and participate in the Essay Contest, please read carefully the “Terms and conditions”. You must complete the Registration Form, and submit your essay electronically as an attachment to summitcso@oas.org.

The final decision of the winning essays will be published on March 3rd, 2009 on the Summits of the Americas Secretariat website www.summit-americas.org.
