Dhurba Chandra Gautam was born on December 16, 1943 in Birgunj, Parsa district of West Tarai of Nepal. Gautam is a popular writer of short stories and novels in Nepali. He is well known for the unique and inventive presentation of the characters in his stories

Gautam has written more than hundred stories and several novels in a career spanning more than four decades. He is in the forefront of Nepali experimental writing and is the exponent of a literary movement called Katha Sutra.

He has been awarded the Madan Puraskar and various other literary awards.

The Library of Congress has thirty-two works by him.
