Arjan Mirchandani 'Shad', born in 1924 in Sind, in present-day Pakistan, is a prominent Sindhi poet and literary critic. Arjan Shad's poetry encompasses a vast range of forms and themes, including Nazms, Ghazals, Azad Nazms, Rubais, Naeem Kavita and others. Having started as a romantic poet of exuberance, Arjan Shad has over time evolved into a staunch advocate of progressivism in poetry, though without making his poetry a vehicle of propaganda or preaching. Sahitya Akademi describes his poetry as "a beautiful blend of thought and emotion, apt and evocative imagery, soul-stirring diction and ingenious treatment of his vast range of experiences which delve deep into the human psyche." His similes and metaphors are noted for completely merging in the structure of his poetry, making them parts of an indivisible organic whole. His precise, dynamic and lyrical language leaves a lasting imprint on the mind. The Sahitya Akademi noted that the development of this master craftsman's "thought and feeling in the process of his creation has no narrative as such, but there is a poetic atmosphere all-round which gradually converts itself into dramatic revelation." Arjan Shad also translated a good deal of Russian poetry into Sindhi, which gained him the then coveted Soviet Land Nehru Award. He can be described by all means as one of the most innovative and ingenious of contemporary Indian poets.

Arjan Shad is also a reputed scholar. He has held a number of prestigious academic literary positions such as member, Sindhi Advisory Board, Government of India, Film Advisory Board, Films Division and National Book Trust. He has received many awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award, Soviet Land Nehru Award and Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar.

The Library of Congress has one work by him.
