The 56th Presidential Inauguration

President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn in on January 20, 2009 as the 44th President of the United States.  The Inauguration will take place on the West front and grounds of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.  Each member of the 111th Congress will receive a limited number of free tickets for their constituents to attend this event.

UPDATE: As of November 12th, after receiving more than 10,000 individual requests for tickets, Senator Murray’s office has stopped taking requests for tickets to the Inauguration ceremony.  Please know, this does not mean you will be unable to attend.  The general admission areas on the National Mall will not require tickets. These standing areas will be set up west of Fourth Street between Madison Drive and Jefferson Drive. The Capitol Police and the National Park Service are expecting as many as four million people to attend so please arrive early to avoid security delays.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee will be responsible for tickets to the Inaugural Parade and the official Inaugural Balls.  Only the PIC is responsible for distributing tickets to these events.

See more information on the Inauguration festivities in Washington, D.C., including further information on Inaugural Balls, hotel information, and other important info.

The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) is responsible for distributing and providing tickets to Members of Congress ONLY.  Any websites claiming to sell and/or provide tickets to the Inauguration should be handled with caution.

We can make education work for our future

Over the past several months, we've watched some of the biggest financial institutions in the world fail.

The fallout is threatening the world's largest industries and nations across the world. And it's affecting us here in Washington and the Tri-Cities as well - people are losing their jobs, homes and savings.

Washington senator re-pledges allegiance to veterans

Speaking to a conference for military families, Murray spotlighted two issues she plans to address in Washington, D.C.
One concern is making sure soldiers have enough time between deployments “to regroup and reconnect” with their families.
“And,” she added, “we need to make sure for once and for all that when our troops come home they always get the world class care that they have earned.”

Baird and Murray celebrate dredge success

It was truly a joyous occasion in Chinook last week as a big crowd gathered at the Chinook Fire Hall to thank U.S. Rep. Brian Baird and U.S. Sen. Patty Murray for their last-minute save of the Port of Chinook's channel. The two were instrumental, thanks to a barrage of phone calls, in procuring $1.5 million to dredge the perpetually silted-in channel.
