Joint PCC/CCS Task Force to Develop Series Training
The PCC Policy Committee and the ALCTS CCS Executive Committee charge the
Joint PCC/CCS Task Force to Develop Series Training to:
- Extend the work of the PCC/CCS Task Force to Develop Name and Title Authority
Training to cover series. The group should consider the issues surrounding
series broadly, covering decisions to be made with respect to series, the
implications of those decisions for staff and OPAC users, and the use of
series authority records.
- Survey existing training materials on series and assess their adaptability
for use in a new course
- Identify a potential audience for the training; or audiences for modular
training
- Determine the comprehensiveness of course materials
- Develop an outline of topics to be covered in the course, which should
include the implications of decisions regarding tracing, classification,
and analysis, as well as OPAC indexing and display options.
- Prepare or contract out the development of course materials for authoritative,
standardized training in the decisions associated with series and the use
of series authority records
- Share course materials with ALCTS and the PCC
- Prepare progress reports to the PCC Standing Committee on Training and
the ALCTS CCS Executive Committee at ALA Midwinter Meetings and Annual Conferences
- Develop and coordinate a pilot program using the course materials
- Refer policy issues which may arise to the Joint PCC/ALCTS Committee on
Time frame:
Initial reports due September 30, 2005. Pilot program (one module run-through)
expected Annual 2006. A modular pre-conference expected for Annual 2007.
