series of narratives from World War II’s China-Burma-India
Theater via the project’s Web site.

"Women at War
" Celebrates Women's History Month
March 1, 2007 -- “Women at War” covers four wars, beginning
with World War II, the first conflict in which American women
appeared in uniform in all branches of the armed forces. The
collection of stories includes nurses like Frances Liberty, who
served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and Jeanne Urbin
Markle, who served with her husband in Vietnam. Other stories
feature civilian codebreakers, a flight surgeon, and two history
makers.

February 22, 2007 -- Women are among the millions of Americans who have served their country in wartime. Their contributions will be celebrated during Women’s History Month with a film series titled "Women at War," sponsored by the Library of Congress Veterans History Project within the American Folklife Center.

Project web site beginning Nov. 9, 2006. The collection of
fully-digitized stories is titled “Art of War,” and
will be added to “Experiencing War” stories from

Robert Patrick Selected as New Director, Veterans History Project
May 23, 2006 -- Robert W. “Bob” Patrick has been
selected as the new director of the Veterans History Project, a
program
of the
American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress to collect
and preserve oral histories and documentary materials from veterans
of World War I through the current conflicts.
Veterans History Project Hosts Concert with West Point Society of D.C.
February 15, 2006 -- The Library of Congress Veterans History Project
and the West Point Society of Washington, D.C., will present a concert
by
the West Point Cadet Glee Club at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March
11 in Coolidge Auditorium of the Library’s Thomas Jefferson
Building, 10 First St. S.E., Washington, D.C. The concert is
free and open to the public.
Hilary Kaiser Lectures on American Soldiers and French War Brides in
WWII
1/31/2006 -- Oral historian and author Hilary Kaiser will deliver
a lecture titled, “The American Soldier and ‘Mademoiselle’:
Love and Marriage after WWI and WWII,” at noon on Friday, Feb. 10

African American Stories Go Online Feb. 1 in honor of Black History
Month
January 25, 2006 -- A selection of 23 fully digitized collections of
materials submitted by African American war veterans will be highlighted
on the
Veterans History Project web site beginning Feb. 1, 2006. The
collection of fully-digitized
stories is titled “African Americans at War: Fighting Two Battles,” and
will be added to “Experiencing War” stories from the Veterans
History Project.
