Barack Obama, unknown to most Americans just four years ago, will become the 44th President and the first African-American President of the United States.  Obama, a senator from Illinois, and his running mate Joe Biden will take the oath of office on January 20, 2009.

2010 American Immigrant Visa Lottery Registration Begins

Washington — The 2010 Diversity Visa Lottery (DV-2010) will be held from October 2 to December 1, 2008, the U.S. State Department announced. Applicants are urged not to wait until the last minute to apply because excessive demand on the lottery Web site may cause delays as the deadline nears. (Full Text

 

Secretary Rice Visits Morocco

Secretary Rice (Sept. 6-7, 2008): " This has been an opportunity, the visit to Libya, where we established, really, the way forward for constructive relations, to Tunis, to Algiers, and now here, in Morocco, to talk about the ways that the United States can help this region, the Maghreb region, with the many challenges that it has, but also with the many opportunities that it has."

New Arabic Version of America.Gov

The Bureau of International Information Programs has recently launched the Arabic-language version of america.gov:  www.america.gov/ar
In addition to offering up-to-date information on U.S. society, values and policy in Arabic, reflecting most of what English America.gov offers our worldwide audiences, the Arabic America.gov will also offer our Arab readers information that is not NEA-specific. The site offers four unique pages including a page dedicated to the Middle East Peace Process and America's involvement in peacemaking in the region. It will also feature information of U.S relations with individual Arab countries.
