Weimer Pursell created this geometric design of the Hall of Science Tower for the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. He also did a major poster for the 1934 Chicago World's Fair. Pursell, who studied at the Chicago Art Institute worked as an illustrator for Life and Esquire as well as illustrating many books and other publications. Pursell produced some of the finest American Deco designs for Coca Cola, American Airlines and Standard Oil, among others. Unfortunately, his work is very difficult to find today. American posters, which date from the early American broadsides used for announcements and declarations, were the most effective means of advertising for many decades preceding radio and television. The first poster gallery opened in the 1890's as color printing became more common and posters quickly became an essential form of artistic expression. Posters from all periods are bought and sold in the world market for their message, design, colors, and market value.
