Committee on Foreign Affairs
The House Committee on Foreign Affairs is made up of seven subcommittees including 1) Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and the Global Environment; 2) Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia; 3) Subcommittee on Europe; 4) Africa and Global Health; 5) Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere; 6) Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade; and 7) Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights, and Oversight.
The Committee on Foreign Affairs is responsible for relations of the United States with foreign nations generally. This includes intervention abroad and declarations of war like Iraq. The Committee on Foreign Affairs is also responsible for export controls, including nonproliferation of nuclear technology and nuclear hardware and international commodity agreements (other than those involving sugar) including all agreements for cooperation in the export of nuclear technology and nuclear hardware.
Additionally, the Committee has jurisdiction for acquisition of land and building for embassies and legation in foreign countries, establishment of boundary lines between the United States and foreign nations, international conferences and congresses, United Nation organizations, international education, foreign loans, diplomatic service, international economic policy, measures to foster commercial intercourse with foreign nations and to safeguard American business abroad, the American National Red Cross, and the protection of American citizens abroad.
Congressman Tom Lantos, a Democrat from California, is the Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida is the Ranking Republican on the Committee.

Thanks to your support and prayers, I continue to hold for American Samoa the fourth most senior Democratic position on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. I am also Chairman on the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and the Global Environment.
