WASHINGTON, D.C.—GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE FEBRUARY 1; FALEOMAVAEGA ENCOURAGES ELIGIBLE INCOMING FRESHMEN TO APPLY

Congressman Faleomavaega is encouraging all eligible incoming freshmen to apply for Gates Millennium Scholarships.  The deadline is February 1, 2001.  Students must be nominated by a high school teacher, have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, be eligible for a Pell grant, and have demonstrated leadership ability through extracurricular activities and community service.  Scholarships are only available to incoming freshmen attending a four-year, accredited institution.

“This is a great opportunity for qualified students to fund their education and I am pleased that the Gates Foundation has included our students as part of its Millennium Scholarship program.  I encourage all interested high school seniors to contact their high school counselors, the Community College, or my district office for assistance,” Congressman Faleomavaega said.  “Applications are available on-line at www.gmsp.org, and complete applications are being accepted by fax.”
