WASHINGTON, D.C.—OVER  $1.4 MILLION IN FEDERAL GRANTS TO AMERICAN SAMOA
 
Congressman Faleomavaega announced today that American Samoa will be receiving $1,428,956 in federal funds at the beginning of the new Fiscal Year. The grants are awarded to ASG through several departments of the Federal government.  
 
  • $758,000 is awarded to the American Samoa Department of Commerce/Coastal Management Program by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to continue the implementation of the Territory’s Federally approved coastal zone management program.
  • $151,176 also is received from NOAA under the Inter-jurisdictional Fisheries Act to monitor catches of highly migratory.
  • $357,780 is awarded to the American Samoa Criminal Justice Planning Agency by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) under the STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grants Program. 
  • $162,000 is awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy to the American Samoa Government under the 2000 Energy Program formula.
“These programs and grants have been approved by Congress and are distributed to States and Territories based on a pre-established formula,” Congressman Faleomavaega said.  “I congratulate the directors and staffs of the respective agencies in our government for the excellent job they have been performing in administering the programs.”
