U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee today recommended the formation of an exploratory panel to examine options related to the exclusivity issue in the case of the Graduate Student Employee Action Coalition/United Auto Workers and the University of Washington.

Said Inslee, "I support giving the University of Washington the same capability to enter into a collective bargaining agreement that every other employer in the country possesses. During this summer cooling off period, we could benefit from hearing the innovative ideas and opinions generated by a panel formed to examine the issue. Perhaps a fresh and expedited review of all our options, by the best and brightest minds outside of the fray, would help the parties involved arrive at a mutually acceptable solution."
