Inslee visited Sea-Tac on January 18, 2002 to observe the implementation of interim baggage screening measures. Inslee wrote legislation that increased our baggage security funding by $250 million, and is frustrated that the government has still not even ordered the baggage screening machines. It will be difficult to meet the baggage screening deadlines in December 2002 if our baggage screening machines have not yet been manufactured.

Inslee explains why it is so important that airports screen 100 percent of all baggage with the best bomb scanning technology available. He stressed the need to make the protection of the American flying public part of a war time effort, and urged the Transportation Security Administration to meet the December 31 deadline.
