Lawmakers support listing polar bear as threatened

9 April 2007

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) and 40 other members of Congress sent a letter to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in support of listing the polar bear as a threatened species. The public comment period for a final rule on listing the iconic marine mammal ends today. FWS expects to receive around half a million comments.
