Supporting Roadless Areas of Our National Forests
14 September 2004
U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee spoke at a press event to announce the phenomenal results of efforts to mobilize Americans against the administrations plan to permit logging in 58.5 million acres of pristine National Forests. Several groups joined together to hold a convention-style event on the Ellipse in front of the White House. State delegates were on-hand to announce local tallies of the comments submitted by the public in response to the Bush Administrations recent decision to repeal the widely popular 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule.
Joining the groups was 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist Rebecca Giddens. She is a U.S. kayaker who practices on the Kern River, which runs through the Sequoia National Forest in California.
Senator Maria Cantwell also spoke at the event. Public support of the roadless rule from Washington State has been very extensive during the comment period.
