Rep. Scott's Statement on Navy Announcement of Potential OLF Sites

WASHINGTON, DC - The Secretary of the Navy and the Chief of Naval Operations announced today five new potential sites for an outlying landing field to support training requirements for all carrier air-wing aircraft based at Naval Air Station Oceana and Naval Station Norfolk.  Three of those sites are in Virginia, located at Cabin Point, Dory and Mason.  Cabin Point in Surry County partially resides within the 3rd Congressional District of Virginia.  Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA-03) released the following statement on the Navy’s announcement:

“I commend the Navy for doing its due diligence in trying to determine the best location for an outlying landing field, and that the final site should be in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” said Rep. Scott.  “However, I hope that the Navy will continue to work with local governments and communities that will be directly affected by this decision.  The residents and local government of Surry County still have many concerns about an outlying landing field in their county.  The Surry County Board of Supervisors recently passed a resolution opposing an outlying landing field in Surry.  As the public comment process continues, Surry County’s concerns should not be ignored.”
