Bibliographies and other reference works which need to be updated ( The original version of this list was published by Nancy J. Schmidt in ASA News, July/Sept., 1993).

Comparative listing of 6 major indexes to Africa-related journals: This document was prepared for the Bibliography Committee of the Africana Librarians Council in the hope it would spur discussion and cooperation between the different indexing services towards a unified database, on CD-ROM or web-based, or both, to make the valuable research on Africa available more freely especially in Africa, but for researchers everywhere.

Conover-Porter Award

The Conover-Porter Award is presented by the Africana Librarians Council of the (US) African Studies Association.
Awarded in even-numbered years at the Association's annual meeting, the Conover-Porter Award recognizes
outstanding achievement in Africana bibliography and reference tools among works published in the preceding two
years. The award honors two pioneers in African Studies bibliography, Helen F. Conover, of the Library of
Congress, and Dorothy B. Porter, of Howard University.
