Zach Wamp visits Washburn
November 5 –
Congressman Zach Wamp visited Washburn High School to honor the school with a pirate statue in order to apologize the misnaming of the school mascot October 31. Also attending the assembly were Mayor Mark Hipsher, Superintendent Terry Acuff, School Administrator Edwin Jarnagin and Grainger Co. School Board members. While as Washburn, Congressman Wamp also gave students a brief speech concerning the upcoming election and the state of the nation’s economy. He stressed the fact that our generation can achieve our dreams with hard work and effort.

Congressman Zach Wamp touts benefits of Blaine Business Park
November 5 –
U.S. Congressman Zach Wamp joined local business leaders and the principals of Blaine Business Park on Rutledge Pike for a groundbreaking at the 172-acre industrial development. “East Tennessee has once again looked at the needs of its communities and created a solution that will help a ready and willing work force find jobs, as well as bring new economic opportunities to the region,” said Wamp. “Grainger County’s high unemployment rate and the shortage of commercial and industrial land in the regions, coupled with the automotive industry growth in East Tennessee that is upon the horizon, provide a unique opportunity for those looking to locate to the area and invest in East Tennessee.”

TN urges FDA to protect state’s tomato producers
July 8
In a joint letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Tennessee congressional delegation has requested that the FDA “quickly determine the [salmonellosis] outbreak’s source and effectively eliminate the contaminated tomatoes from our food supply without hurting the producers whose products are still safe.” Congressman Zach Wamp said: “The public needs to know that Tennessee-grown tomatoes are safe to eat. The FDA has confirmed this. We are working to get out the word that these Tennessee products are still safe.” 

Time to allow American companies to produce American energy

We can only help lower the price of gasoline by implementing an all-of-the-above approach that increases American-made energy, decreases our dependence on foreign oil and creates jobs here at home in the process. The world needs to see us proactively moving toward energy independence, and the best way we can do it is to deploy the technologies and capitalize on our free-enterprise system to solve these problems. We must continue to invest in next generation vehicles to decrease our petroleum consumption.  

Honoring America’s fallen sons and daughters

We salute the men and women in all of our armed forces who have answered the call and are especially grateful for those who have given their lives in defense of our country. We revere the men and women who gave their lives throughout our nation’s history and the families they left behind in pursuit of keeping Americans free and safe. 

Helping Tennesseans pay for college
April 17 “It is important that we work together to preserve the availability of student loans, particularly during this time of economic uncertainty,” said Congressman Zach Wamp. “The Treasury Department should use any available tools to restore confidence in the student loan market to provide stability and relief for lenders, students and families.” 

Wamp backs water coalition
April 2 –The East TN Regional Water Coalition includes Grainger, Claiborne, Hancock, Knox and Union counties, and was formed to address public water service issues and help overcome challenges related to droughts and inadequate water supplies. “This coalition can play a significant role in water conservation and promote regional cooperation by planning how to best manage the area’s water resources in times of drought.”

Invest rebate checks in energy efficient products
March 4 “As our state and our country continue to consume large amounts of energy, it is increasingly important that we move closer toward energy independence. Encouraging taxpayers to use their rebates to install or invest in energy efficiency technologies is one way to help reduce energy consumption.”

Washington internship opportunities for spring and summer

Congressman Zach Wamp announces openings for challenging spring and summer internships for Third District college students in his Washington, D.C., office. Internships provide many opportunities to learn how government works and how a Congressional office serves the public.

Thousands march for life

“The most vulnerable members of our society are the unborn. Since the Supreme Court issued its decision on Roe v. Wade 35 years ago, an estimated 40 million innocent unborn human lives have ended. We mourn for these lives. This is a day to recommit ourselves to the cause of the unborn. I believe that life begins at conception, and will continue to stand up for all innocent life by consistently voting for life.”
