LINCOLN DAVIS VOTES TO PASS TERRORISM RISK INSURANCE BILL September 17, 2007

-- U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis voted today to pass the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA). This bill provides necessary assistance to insurance companies so they can guarantee swift and immediate relief in the event of a terrorist attack. This legislation is a reauthorization of a law first passed in 2002, but adds a provision to include life insurance under the bill and expands the program to cover domestic, as well as foreign terrorism.

"The first priority of the Congress must be to protect our country from foreign or domestic terror, but should a terrorist act occur we must be able to get relief to businesses and individuals affected by the attack” Davis said. “I supported this legislation so that this country can rebuild itself in the event of another terrorist attack and to make sure that we are doing all we can to help restore the lives of families involved."

The bill extends the TRIA program for an additional fifteen years, building confidence in the economy by protecting the assets of businesses looking to invest in areas considered at high-risk for terrorist attacks. Under the bill, no tax payer dollars will be spent unless a terrorist attack occurs.
