During World War I, Maginel Wright Enright received the "call" to
design a series of posters for the United States School Garden
Army (part of the National War Garden Commission). This national
campaign was launched in 1917 to increase the food supply. Enright's
posters, designed with strong flat colors and figures, depict an
army of vegetables marching along with a child carrying a hoe.
