Congressman Frank Lucas is inviting high school students living in Oklahoma’s Third Congressional District to participate in the his annual Congressional Art Scholarship Competition.
An Artistic Discovery is a nationwide congressional high school art competition sponsored by the Congressional Arts Caucus and initiated by Members of Congress. More than 300 congressional offices participate in the program. The first place winning entry from each congressional district will be displayed in the corridor tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol Building for one year, where it will be seen by thousands of people visiting the nation’s capital.
"This is a great opportunity for Oklahoma’s young artists to showcase their talents," Lucas said. "We have many talented art students in Oklahoma, and I want to encourage them to participate in this unique program, so they can receive the national recognition they deserve."
The contest is open to high school students and will be hosted in Lucas’ Canadian County office. Artwork submitted to the competition must be delivered to one of the 14 submission sites in the congressional district by noon Monday, April 16.
The winning piece will be sent to Washington, D.C. to be displayed over the next year, and the winning artist will receive free airfare for three to participate in the Congressional Art Competition’s ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 28 in Washington, D.C.
