Nathaniel Philbrick is a leading authority on the history of Nantucket, serves as the founding director of the Egan Institute of Maritime Studies and is a research fellow at the Nantucket Historical Society. He is the author of several books on sailing and the history of sailing, including the acclaimed international best-seller In the Heart of the Sea (2000), which won the 2000 National Book Foundation Award for Nonfiction, and Sea of Glory (2003), named a New York Times Notable Book for 2003. His latest book, The New York Times best-seller Mayflower (Penguin, 2006), is about the voyage of the Mayflower and the settlement of Plymouth Colony. Mr. Philbrick lives on Nantucket Island.
