Statement of Congressman Gregory W. Meeks On the Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz

(WASHINGTON, DC) Today, on the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, my heart goes out to the families and friends of the more than six million Jews and other innocent victims who senselessly perished as well as those who survived the Holocaust.

We often hear the words, "never again" and all humankind must continue to be vigilant in our prevention of such acts of hatred and evil from happening again. That is why, as we look back today to mourn the loss of so many innocent victims and as we continue to call for the world to recognize the intolerance, hate, anti-Semitism and fanaticism that lead to the Holocaust, I ask that we also remember the tens of thousands of victims who have lost their lives over the past decade to genocide.

If we have truly learned from the Holocaust, we must do everything we can to ensure that genocide is a product of the past.
