Rep. Andrews Praises Landmark Lobbying & Ethics Law

Last Friday, the President signed into law the Honest Leadership, Open Government Act.  Last year, we promised to break the link between lobbyists and legislators here in Washington and to fundamentally change the way business is done in Washington.  Today’s enactment of the Honest Leadership, Open Government Act will bring unprecedented transparency to lobbyists’ activities and another major step to change the way business is done in Washington.

This new law is the most sweeping lobbying and ethics reform in a generation and has been hailed by reform groups and newspapers as a “sea change” and “landmark reform” and “the most sweeping overhaul of congressional ethics rules since Watergate.” .  I believe that transparency is critical in government, and this new legislation will ensure lawmakers are remaining honest to their constituents.

From the first day of the 110th Congress, we set course on a new direction of honest, open government, returning this House to the American people.  And with this comprehensive lobbying and ethics reform bill, we are keeping our promise to the American people
