CITIZENS CALL ON ARMY TO DELAY VX PLAN

Opposition to the Army’s plan to dump VX byproduct in the Delaware River is growing.  Citizen groups from New Jersey, Indiana, and states between have called on the Army to delay implementation of this plan until the citizens who will be primarily affected have time to fully review the proposal.  I commend these groups for their strong stance against this ill-advised plan.

The CDC recently issued their second report on the viability of the Army’s plan, and found that it adequately addresses public health concerns.  However, this conclusion is based on the rosiest of scenarios, and is not a satisfactory review of what could be a lurking disaster for New Jersey’s residents and environment.

I join with citizens from New Jersey and across the country in standing up against the Army’s ill-advised VX disposal plan.  It is dangerous, unnecessary, and does not sufficiently take into account serious health and environmental risks.  I will continue to work to end this plan for good.
