Rep. Andrews Remembers Lessons of Attack at Pearl Harbor

On December 7, 1941, this country experienced a shock that would not again be felt until September 11, 2001.  I recently hosted my 16th Annual Pearl Harbor Day Commemoration at the Battleship New Jersey to remember the sacrifice of the 2,251 Americans killed and 1,119 Americans injured 65 years ago in the attack at Pearl Harbor, and to recall the lessons we learned from this grim day in our country’s history.  The Pearl Harbor generation reminds us to be constantly vigilant and prepared for threats to our nation’s security, and to cherish the gifts of hope and freedom that we enjoy today.

On December 4, I joined with veterans, constituents, and other friends to honor the veterans of Pearl Harbor, and to remember their courage and dedication to our country.  I was honored that a Pearl Harbor survivor from Cape May, Mr. Ed Smith, joined me, and shared his personal account of the events that transpired that day.

I thank all of those that joined me for the 16th Annual Pearl Harbor Day Commemoration, and all of those who fight for our nation’s freedom.  As your Representative in Congress, I will continue to remain vigilant against all threats foreign and domestic, and promise to always remember the lessons of Pearl Harbor and 9/11.  We must not forget the heroism of those who have sacrificed to defend this great nation.
