Highway N Gets Assist From Graves

(Washington, D.C) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves announced he has secured $500,000 in funding for a Platte County road in a bill that passed the House late Monday night. The intersection of Highway N and 136th Street, just south of Platte City, is the crossroad for two major corridors in the county. Improvement will include constructing turn lanes and lowering hills to increase the sight distance.

“I’m pleased that Sam Graves is working for Platte County,” said Betty Knight, Platte County Presiding Commissioner. “Highway N is an important project for our continued growth. Together we are helping Platte County move forward.”

The area surrounding the intersection is experiencing rapid growth and economic activity. The improvements will be made in conjunction with a partnership between Platte County, the Missouri Department of Transportation and the Platte City Benefit Assessment Special Road District.

“I am pleased to work with everyone in Platte County to improve this dangerous intersection,” said Graves. “Infrastructure improvements are vital to keeping school kids safe and continuing economic development in the county.”

The funding was requested by Graves and included in the Transportation/Housing and Urban Development bill earlier this year. However, a final bill never made it to the President’s desk. Instead, funding was included in the Omnibus Appropriations Bill that passed the House on Monday night. That bill is expected to be passed in the Senate and sent to the President this week.
