Graves: Act Now to Address Energy Crisis

(Washington) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves issued the following statement on the President’s call to open up drilling off of America's coasts and in ANWR, build more refineries, and speed up efforts to recover oil from shale in areas such as the Green River Basin of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming.
“Missouri families and small businesses are suffering from out of control fuel prices. It is time for Congress to act now and solve our energy crisis by increasing the supply of American energy. We are sending billions of dollars and thousands of jobs overseas because extreme liberals refuse to allow Americans to drill for American oil.”

“To make matters worse, we have not built a new refinery in this country in over 30 years. Our capacity to refine gas is stretched to the limit, and it is affecting the price of gas. We need to cut the red-tape and get more refineries online to start bringing down prices for Missourians.”

“By making it illegal to drill for American oil and stopping the construction of new refineries, we are only increasing our dependence on foreign oil. It is time for Congress to end our do-nothing energy policy and to act now and pass a real solution to our energy prices.”

“Families and small businesses need relief. Every time they go to the gas station or pay their electric bill, they are paying the price of extreme liberal policies that lock away American energy. Congress cannot afford to ignore the problem. We need to open up our American energy supply.”
