President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn in during the 56th Presidential Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremony on January 20, 2009 in Washington, DC. We look forward to providing you information regarding this historic event. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies is responsible for all balls, family activities and the official Inaugural Day parade. Information regarding the various events can be found on the following websites: http://www.inaugural.senate.gov As our office receives additional information from the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies and the Presidential Inaugural Committee we will update our website. Swearing-In TicketsTickets to the 56th Inaugural Ceremonies will be provided free of charge and distributed through Congressional Member offices. Due to the large number of request and the limited number of tickets available, we have conducted a random computer –generated selection for some tickets to the Inauguration Ceremony. We will no longer be accepting request for tickets. Please keep in mind that the entire National Mall will be open to the public.
National Mall Open to Public on Inauguration DayThe Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced that, for the first time, the entire length of the National Mall will be opened to the public. Constituents who come to witness the swearing-in on the Mall will be able to watch and listen to the ceremony on large screens that will be provided by the PIC along the Mall.
Welcome Event at Lincoln MemorialThe Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced that they will host a welcome event to kick off the 56th Presidential Inauguration on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, January 18th. The afternoon welcome event will be free and open to the public.
Concert for America's ChildrenThe Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) will be holding a youth concert on the evening of Monday, January 19th, at the Verizon Center in downtown Washington, D.C. The concert will be free, but tickets will be required. Please check back for more details in the coming weeks.
Michigan Congressional Delegation Open HouseThe Michigan Congressional Delegation will be holding an OPEN HOUSE from 9:00 a.m. – Noon on Monday, January 19th in the Montpelier Room on the 6th floor of the Library of Congress’ Madison Building. The Madison Building is located on Independence Avenue less than a block from the Capitol South Metro stop.
Michigan State Society Inaugural Dinner DanceThe Michigan State Society is hosting a Michigan Inaugural Dinner Dance on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from 7:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. at the National Museum of American History. For more information, please visit their website |
