Site Implementation and Impact Studies

Striving Readers grants were made to eight sites March 2006. Each site committed to implementing a whole-school and a targeted adolescent literacy intervention in school year 2006-07 with plans to continue the interventions at least through the five years of the grant.

During the first year of implementation, independent evaluators under contract to the grantee tracked and measured program implementation. Evaluators wrote implementation studies that summarized their data collections and submitted the reports to the Department of Education in September 2008. These reports are presented here to offer information to the education community about the process of implementing an adolescent literacy intervention and to point toward the 2009 impact studies, which will also appear on this Web site.

Please note reports will be posted as they become available.

The implementation reports:

  • Describe the school context for the program
  • Provide logic models for the whole-school and targeted interventions
  • Ask and answer implementation research questions
  • Summarize the implementation level attained
  • Characterize the counterfactual
  • Discuss selected implications from the year one implementation study

Year one reports will be updated with year two (SY 2007-08) data and the combined information will be a context for interpreting results reported in 2009 impact studies.
