Instructions for Ordering
Conditions of Order and Use
Copyright and
Other Restrictions for Prints and Photographs

Prints from original or copy negatives will not
necessarily be identical in format or tonal values to a print on
file in the Library or seen in a publication. No retouching is done
to eliminate imperfections existing in the negative or the original
material. The complete image will be printed unless cropping is
requested. Unless otherwise specified, please include mailing/shipping
and handling fees.

Images printed without borders will be priced on
the next larger print size.

Reproductions from stereo negatives and originals
will be reprinted as double images unless a cropping fee is paid.
Ordering Prints From Original Material
When ordering photographic prints from original material,
an additional charge for producing the negative
also applies. The Library retains this
negative to avoid further handling and deterioration of these originals.
If you wish to purchase an identical negative at the same time, the
cost will is an additional 50% of the price of the first negative.
Custom Service
Cropping, centering image, special image or margin size,
reduced print from existing negative, air drying, etc., can be performed
at an additional charge of 100% of the print price.
Special Handling Fee
A special handling fee of $20.00 per order (maximum of
20 items) will be charged for photographing special material requiring
special handling or same day service such as rare books, rare music,
rare Asian rare newspapers, maps, Frank Leslie's, and Harper's Weekly.
Rush Photographic Service
Rush service orders for photographic reproductions are
completed in 10 business days for an additional charge of 300% of the
base price of the order. Orders for some material cannot be rushed.

Prints
Prices are for items with existing negatives, i.e., LC-USZ62-XXXX,
LC-USF-34-XXXX. Prices below are for custom resin-coated prints.

*If the customer requests a copy of a photograph that does not have
an existing negative, the price for a negative for the customer is
an
additional
50% of the price of the first negative. The first negative
is always retained by the Library.
Unless otherwise requested, GLOSSY PRINTS are furnished for 8"
x 10" or smaller sizes.
Exhibition quality prints are handcrafted by our skilled
technicians and printed with emphasis on visual effect. We compensate
for visual defects through dodging and burning techniques.

*The Photoduplication Service produces negatives from
original material. In some cases, the Library may decide to retain
the negative
to avoid further handling and deterioration of the originals. If the
customer wishes to purchase an identical negative at the same time,
the cost will be an additional 50% of the price of the first negative.
Copy negatives are based on 8" x 10" format
to maintain absolute sharpness and clarity. A customer may request a
smaller format when purchasing only a negative. In the case, the customer
will be charged the full price for each negative.

Instructions for ordering items:
A non-refundable processing and search fee is required
to place an order. Full payment is required when the order is submitted.
No orders will be processed without full payment.
PROCESSING AND RESEARCH FEE FOR REPRODUCTIONS FROM THE PRINTS AND
PHOTOGRAPHS COLLECTIONS:
A $14.00 fee is charged for the first 25 items requested
per order. The fee is non-refundable and covers order processing,
item
identification, and retrieval of material. $4.00 is charged for every
additional 25 items requested in the same order.
PROCESSING AND RESEARCH FEE FOR REPRODUCTIONS FROM LIBRARY COLLECTIONS
(EXCEPT PRINTS AND PHOTOGRAPHS & GEOGRAPHY AND MAPS COLLECTIONS):
A $14.00 fee per item is charged for photoraphic reproductions
from all library collections except Prints and Photographs and Geography
and Map collections. The fee is non-refundable and covers order processing,
item identification, and retrieval. $4.00 is charged for each additional
item from the same collection or with the same title in the same order.
In general, orders must be accompanied by reproduction
numbers or call numbers that are used to identify the material
being ordered. Reproduction numbers and call numbers are often included
in publications or you can search the Library's online catalog at catalog.loc.gov.
When reproduction numbers are not found by these means, the numbers
must be identified through research by the customer or by requesting
the research services of the
reading room that has custody of the material.
- If no Reproduction Number is located for the item:
You will need to request to have the original item photographed.
You can specify whether you prefer to have it photographed in color
or black and white. Order photography of the original by citing
the call number, title, and LC control number listed for the item.
NOTE: If the MEDIUM field in the catalog record lists more than
one item, further selection will be required before photographic
copies of individual items can be ordered. In general, the Photoduplication
Service can provide photocopies of groups of images for a fee, for
purposes of further selection, if the images are less than 70 years
old.
