Washington, D.C. - U.S. Reps. Timothy V. Johnson and Jerry Weller today announced approval of a $250,000 appropriation for ongoing work on the Normal Multi-modal Center.
“I am proud to announce our success to date in moving this project through the appropriation process,” Rep. Johnson said. “I’m pleased to announce that Rep. Weller and I were successful in again obtaining funding for this vital project. The multimodal center promises to be a critical component of the transportation network in Central Illinois as well as a valuable asset in the ongoing revitalization of downtown Normal.”
This year’s appropriation is a continuation of the congressmen’s joint efforts in advocating for the multimodal center.
“The Town of Normal depends on transportation because of its geographical position between Chicago and St. Louis, and because of Illinois State University, which brings students from every region to the town,” Rep. Weller said. “Investing in transportation improves the quality of life for residents, and spurs economic growth and job creation. Mayor Koos and the Council have an excellent plan to enhance both the functionality and the beauty of uptown, and Congressman Johnson and I are proud to help.”
While approved by the House, the appropriations still must pass the Senate and joint conference committees.
