The Village of Homewood will donate an Aexperienced@ firetruck to the Village of Dixmoor Fire Department on Thursday in a transfer arranged by Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr.

The transfer of the fire engine will take place at 10:30 AM, Thursday, at the Homewood Fire Department, located behind the Homewood Village Hall, at 2020 Chestnut Road in Homewood.

Congressman Jackson was approached several months ago by Homewood Mayor Rich Hofeld, who informed Jackson that the Homewood Fire Department had purchased a new pumper and was going to decommission its oldest engine, which was still in excellent condition.

Mayor Hofeld asked the Congressman to assist him in locating a community that could make good use of the fire truck. Jackson contacted Dixmoor Mayor Keevan Grimmett and he stated that Dixmoor could use it immediately.

This is the second time Jackson has arranged such a transfer of fire equipment. Several years ago he asked the City of Harvey to donate a fire truck that was being decommissioned to the Ford Heights Fire Department.
