Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr., announced that $2,710,000 was recently awarded to educational institutions, community-based organizations, and villages in the South Side and south suburbs.
Health care grants totaled $1,130,000; housing grants totaled $890,000; education grants totaled $556,000; and safety and firefighter grants totaled $134,000, Jackson said.

for a new health center in Calumet City - $560,000
Southeast Chicago Development Community Economic Development Commission
for a supermarket-anchored strip center - $500,000

Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship - $30,000
Chicago State University
Nursing Workforce Diversity - $40,000
*Grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development were awarded to:

Demolition of dilapidated public housing in Ford Heights - $690,000
South Suburban Housing Center
Fair Housing Initiatives Program - $200,000
*Grants from the Department of Education were awarded to two Chicago Heights institutions:
