Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. today attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a 60-unit Senior Housing Center sponsored by the Greater Roseland Family YMCA and funded by the federal government. The residential facility will be constructed adjacent to the current YMCA building.

"This development will provide sorely needed affordable housing for a growing, underserved population. This is the first new housing for the elderly developed in the Roseland community in more than 20 years," Jackson said.

In addition to providing badly needed housing for seniors, the development and the YMCA will also provide seniors with social and supportive services.

The project was primarily funded through a $6.3 million grant from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program. The grant was secured by Congressman Jackson, who serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
