Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr., a member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced that the House has passed the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, the Judiciary, the District of Columbia, the Executive Office of the President, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2007 by a vote of 406 to 22.

Jackson said, "This bill provides funding for valuable street, public transportation and community development projects in our district."

The bill will now go to the Senate for approval. If approved, it will then go to a House-Senate conference committee where differences will be reconciled before going to the President for his signature.

Specifically the bill includes the following Illinois 2nd District requests:

*$800,000 for Pace Suburban Buses to provide additional funding for network improvements that will allow for faster and more reliable service on congested suburban streets, making Pace a more attractive option to commuters.

*$150,000 for Glenwood Street reconstruction and improvements.

*$150,000 to replace aging streetscape lighting in Flossmoor's Central Business District.

*$150,000 to provide for a new Senior/Community Center in the Village of East Hazel Crest.

$150,000 for the Village of Riverdale to redevelop and revitalize the Pacesetter residential properties. This redevelopment will create incentives for commercial and industrial development and improve the overall community.
