Emanuel Awards Vets Medals

CHICAGO, IL—On Friday, May 4, 2007, at a small presentation in his District Office, U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel (IL-5) will award area veterans with medals they earned but never received.

 “Generations of American GIs have served humbly in the face of terror and insurgency across the globe and we are here today to honor some of Chicago’s heroes.  Their service to this country will never be forgotten,” said Emanuel.


WHO:     Congressman Rahm Emanuel (IL-5) 

Mr. Edward J. Phillips, US Coast Guard veteran of WWII.  

Medals include WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal.

Mr. Louis G. Arvanites, US Army veteran of the Korean War. 

Medals include National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service medal with Bronze Star attachment, and the United Nations Service Medal.

WHAT:    Presentation by Congressman Emanuel of medals earned, but never received, for military service.  Congressman Emanuel worked with the Departments of the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard as well as with the National Personnel Records Center to secure these medals for Mr. Phillips and Mr. Arvanites.
