BEAN, COUNTY AND CIVIC LEADERS TO ANNOUNCE
$2 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDS FOR MILLBURN BYPASS PART OF $12.6 MILLION FOR LAKE COUNTY ROADS IN EIGHTH DISTRICT

Congresswoman Bean and local leaders announce local Federal funding

Lindenhurst, IL
 - On Tuesday, Congresswoman Melissa Bean (IL-08) was joined by Lindenhurst Mayor Jim Betustak and other village officials, as well as members of the Lindenhurst/Lake Villa Chamber of Commerce to announce $2.08 million in federal transportation funding to construct a “Milburn Bypass” at Route 45/Grass Lake Road and Milburn Road in Lindenhurst.   The funding is part of the $12.6 million in for projects in Lake County that Bean obtained in the recent Federal Highway Bill, H.R.3–The Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU).

The bill will deliver $286.5 billion to the nation and $24 million to the Eighth District.  Lake County will receive $12.6 million for various transportation projects.  $2 million in federal funding will help start the Millburn Bypass project that will reduce congestion, improve air quality and increase safety for the drivers and residents of Lindenhurst and the surrounding communities.

“With this funding we can now say that the Millburn Strangler will no longer be a menace to this community,” Bean said.  “Lindenhurst, Antioch and Gurnee are some of the most rapidly-growing towns in Lake County.  That growth is projected to continue and with congestion at this intersection already a problem, building a bypass to improve traffic flow simply could not wait a few more years for federal attention.  After a long day at work, people want to be home with their families.  They want to have dinner with their children, spend time with their spouse and enjoy the quality of life many of them moved here to enjoy.  The last thing they want to do is sit in traffic.  The Millburn Bypass, as well as other Lake County road projects, will allow people to spend more time in the comfort of their homes and less in the confines of their car.”

Additional Lake County transportation projects in the Eighth District include:

• $1,092,000 for Intersection Reconstruction at IL Highway 120 and Bacon Road;

• $480,000 for Signalization Improvements on Midlothian Road for widening, signalization, and pedestrian crosswalk installation near Lake Zurich High School that will provide safe crosswalks and sidewalks, and eliminate severe congestion;

• $668,800 for Rand Road Transit Signal Coordination in Cook and Lake Counties from Des Plaines to Wauconda to reduce congestion and allow first responders to cross municipal boundaries without delay in the event of an emergency;

• $2,688,000 for Widening Washington Street from Cemetery Road to Great America;

• $4,800,000 for the Extension of Atkinson Road in Grayslake to relieve congestion on Belvidere Road, IL 83 and IL 137; and

• $800,000 for Intersection Reconstruction at IL 83 and IL 132.
