Company to develop VA researcher's test for prostate and bladder cancer

October 10, 2005

A Maryland biotechnology company, GTM-LLC, has signed an agreement with VA to develop and market a test invented by a research chemist at the Bay Pines (Fla.) VA Medical Center. The researcher has developed highly accurate ways to measure levels of a protein that may signal the presence of prostate cancer-the leading cancer affecting men-as well as bladder cancer and certain other diseases. The test could lead to more accurate and timely diagnosis. The deal between VA and the company was arranged through VA's Technology Transfer program, which helps move promising medical discoveries from VA labs into clinical practice.
