The Governor’s plan, announced in February 2001, is a comprehensive energy plan for Nevada that seeks to ensure a reliable, affordable and diverse energy supply for Nevada. The Governor’s plan includes components that encourage energy conservation, facilitate electric generation and transmission permitting, facilitate natural gas transmission permitting, and encourage renewable energy development. The Governor’s plan also addresses certain electric utility issues and provides for annual energy resource assessments. NSOE is also responsible for creating a Comprehensive State Energy Plan for Nevada. The Governor’s plan will form the foundation of the Comprehensive Plan and specific legislative mandates regarding the renewable energy and conservation will be incorporated as well.

NSOE is also the point of contact for Nevada for federal energy grants and is the administrator of the Department of Energy’s State Energy Program (SEP). Through the SEP, NSOE supports renewable energy, energy efficiency and clean transportation education, demonstration, and technology utilization projects. NSOE seeks to use the SEP funds to encourage technology acceptance through market-based solutions.

The ability of the NSOE to carry out is important mission would not be possible without the financial support of the State Energy Program (SEP), a formula grant program created in 1978 and administered by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
