Media Advisory: TV Show Preview

A sneak preview of a new PBS television show, "American Treasures of the Library of Congress" will be offered on Tuesday, November 4, at 7 p.m. in the Montpelier Room, sixth floor, Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave. SE. The hour-long special, produced by WQED Pittsburgh, will air on PBS nationwide on Sunday, November 16 at 10 p.m. (check local listings).

Based on the current exhibition of the same name, the show explores the architectural splendors of the Thomas Jefferson Building and the treasures it contains. Highlights include the earliest known baseball card, the first copyrighted movie, and the contents of Lincoln's pockets the night he was assassinated. Other American treasures include Thomas Jefferson's drawing of a machine to make pasta, the earliest known photographic portrait, Bessie Smith and Jelly Roll Morton music scores, and the maps that guided Lewis and Clark across America.
