January 17, 1997Contact: Helen Dalrymple (202) 707-1940Media Advisory: Inaugural Display at Library of CongressA special display of items from the Library's collections related to presidential inaugurations will open Saturday, Jan. 18, in the Great Hall of the Library's Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First St. S.E., and will remain on view through Saturday, Jan. 25. The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Library is closed on Jan. 19 and 20. The 26 items selected for the exhibition cover inaugural celebrations from George Washington to Bill Clinton, and include Washington's second inaugural address, an 1865 inaugural ball invitation, a map of the 1993 inaugural parade, Woodrow Wilson's notes for his 1913 inaugural address, Robert Frost's typed, annotated poem for the John Kennedy inauguration, as well as photographs of several different inaugurations. Other memorabilia and materials from the Library's Manuscript, Music, Geography and Map, and Rare Book and Special Collections Divisions will also be part of the exhibition. # # # PR 97-9 |
